Digital Ads Landing Page Platform

2021

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to extend the organization's existing google advertising service to the wider industry by developing an in-house fully-owned and operated landing page platform (in the category of Unbounce or LeadPages, for instance). The product should be developed and run on in-house infrastructure/servers. The server should have a single source root directory and file structure that allows unlimited domains and SSLs to be parked and served from a single instance. This enables marketing teams to drive ads to a designated webpage with customizable URLs to match the client's brand with a quick production turnaround. The platform should be engineered in such a way to add minimal infrastructure and consider the ongoing conformance needed to scale the solution profitably.

Impact:

The landing page solution has allowed the organization to launch its advertising services to their entire industry and produce destination webpages with standardized, repeatable, and profitable procedures. A key technical achievement in the development of the product was engineering how domains and URLs will be handled to allow the clients to customize their landing pages for their advertising campaigns. This has been well received by the market and essentially eliminated a foreseeable point of resistance by the market to use landing pages. The implementation of the domains/URL system was architected in such a way that the organization would only need to maintain a single instance of their landing page platform to service an unlimited number of clients and client domains/URLs from a single instance of the platform, reducing infrastructure, ongoing maintenance needs, and keeping the cost of conformance to a minimal. With the new service footing in the industry, the organization has generated a significant increase in sales of the service by penetrating a wider addressable market and is on track to be a 1+ million dollar business in its first year.

Google Search Advertising Service

2021

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to develop and launch an MVP Google Ads service for the organization's existing customers. The goal of the MVP was to introduce an early-stage Google Ads service to existing customers before expanding the service to new customers in the larger market. The service would require new job roles and an effort to recruit specialization to hire (or promote) under each role type. As a new product category, the hired domain expertise/SME would work closely with the Project Manager/Developer and play a critical role in shaping the product offering.

Impact:

The product has been rolled out with great success, validated by both a positive reception from the market and the performance of the product; the service is regularly generating quality leads that customers are closing. The service has been key in helping customers improve their bottom line in a shorter timeframe than traditional organic marketing strategies. The service is now a major profitable recurring revenue category for the business, with an aggressive projected outlook on the organization's P&L.

Organization-wide Product Audit

2020

Project Summary:

The main objective of the Product Audit was to evaluate every existing product and service (over 30+) the organization offered and identify where immediate and focused attention is needed and where further product enhancement or future development can be prioritized. This was critically important as the organization did not yet have Product Management teams in place to satisfy such demands in real-time. Soliciting feedback from all stakeholders was essential to completing a comprehensive audit; hearing from customers, or internal teams close to the products, leadership teams, etc. Part of the project included identifying the appropriate prioritization scoring models to rank candidates against OKRs. Additionally, we needed to identify secondary drivers to be factored in those scoring models. The scoring model would be a system of factors (weighted) with underlying criteria (weighted) that will roll up in prioritization scores and a value/effort matrix to identify high-value/low-efforts projects for low hanging fruit, and high-value/high-effort projects where we might need to be more strategic in our road mapping… and low-value/high-effort projects would most likely be backlogged. A completed audit captures all feedback and observations and places them into a Product Management platform as PBIs to be either product road mapped or managed by our agile teams.

Impact:

With a cohesive product management stack implemented and product management and ownership delegated for all products, the organization is now fundamentally transformed into a much more agile structure with new competencies and capabilities to maintain conformance with their products in real-time and focus on innovation with increased velocity across all products. The significant cost of nonconformance is mitigated if not nearly eliminating the risk to the organization. New revenue categories and increased revenue from existing products are now manifested in product development roadmaps that are regularly tailored to stakeholders and the organization’s needs.

Industry Focused Webpage Template Catalogue

2020

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to expand the amount of content available on a previously released MVP web design model (template) platform and give clients more options to choose from when building their website orders. It should allow sales teams to increase the value of their sale by having more rich content to offer. The project will need to prioritize what content should be produced based on market demand balanced with actual sales orders. This would create a product backlog that would always prioritize the development of new content coming from sales over previously scheduled content development that was scheduled based on the market demand that had yet to generate actual orders. This certainly means both what is prioritized for development and their timelines would always move based on real-world orders coming through the door. In this case, the project should plan for an "adaptive/agile" approach to keep teams organized and deliver on sales orders while growing the content portfolio of the product.

Impact:

As a marquee product for the business, the expansion of content on the website design model product has enabled Sales teams to increase the value of a sale on average 19% per website order; this would take a webpage order from 20 pages to 24 pages, for instance. With the expansion of content within the product, the designed process allows the organization to capture current needs and prioritize the development of new content to meet demands as they move through the production queue. This ongoing effort is now standard operating procedure within the web department (in coordination with a content and marketing department) where the ongoing efforts are managed optimally via scrum teams.

Web Maintenance Service

2020

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project is to create a service for the organization’s website clients that bundles the existing web hosting solutions with a newly developed recurring service model that would allow web teams to provide ongoing website updates without new service contracts for each website modification instance. A major challenge to solve would be structuring teams with the appropriate allocations to manage client web maintenance services while also protecting sufficient capacity to satisfy new website project production coming in from sales. Service tiers will need to be developed with the scope of deliverables due to the customer each period.

Digital Asset Management (DAM) Platform

2019

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project is to source a DAM vendor that would suit the needs of the organization. As a digital marketing agency, the organization manages a significant amount of assets, both internal and client-owned. Simply storing these assets in folders in the cloud was inadequate when trying to locate resources needed to fulfill projects. A goal in finding a DAM is to find one that allows sorting, filtering, categorizing, tagging, etc... by file type, size, author, orientation, file data, file metadata, color, client, manufacturer, project, topic, space, etc. so that assets could be curated for better resource utilization across departments. An AI engine to intelligently and accurately extract information from images and automatically generate tags would be supplemental in a larger curation effort.

Impact:

With a digital asset management system implemented, the organization has unlocked hundreds of thousands of assets for its teams to readily source for projects. This has increased the efficiency of collecting assets from clients, sourcing assets within the platform, and has resulted in higher-quality asset selection and distribution to projects. Assets are now curate(able), in a way that is impossible with file and directory structures, allowing the organization to hand-pick assets, create catalogs, and update those libraries for the most common use cases, further increasing efficiency, utilization, and system adoption.

Website Design Models (Industry Templates)

2019

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to create a web-based platform that would allow clients to build their websites through a modular sales order system. The main pillars of the project included front-end design models (templates), backend administration, coding, image sourcing from manufacturers, industry-specific copy development that is both technically accurate and persuasive from the organization’s in-house Writers, mobile layout optimization, style options, new content structures for pages based on industry services, etc. As the organization maintained a previous generation web product that would sunset with the introduction of this new platform, one key output of this project would be to complete a full analysis of the previous platform to evaluate existing copy, content structure, asset needs, production process, product health & performance, review and approval policies, costs and fees, stack integration, conformance and technical trends.

Impact:

This product has received numerous awards by the client's top industry organizational bodies (contact us to learn more) which has driven credibility and brand recognition to the organization, generating increased sales opportunities and ultimately closing new business that has exceeded sales goals for the organization. The platform remains a marquee product for the organization and accounts for a major share of direct cash flow for the business while allowing the organization to cross-pollinate website clients with other in-house marketing services, extending the value of the product and its direct sales.

Value Nurturing Email Reporting System

2019

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to create a visually attractive email to clients that includes an engaging report of the marketing campaign's performance with key performance metrics told in story-form with supporting imagery. The emails are to be sent at the beginning of each month for each client. The organization’s automated reporting platform did not send attractive and engaging reports, often with too much data that was confusing for the client with little to no explanation for what they were seeing, all leading to lack of client interest and thus defeating the purpose of presenting value to the client in a way they would understand. The organization decided a more engaging report that is creatively designed would have more stickiness. Budget constraints eliminated many of the automated system design solutions and thus relegated the organization to semi-manual builds of the reports. Consequently, a critical focus of the project was to structure the systems that would allow the efficient extraction of the data needed from each client and distribute that into a client-specific report template. The organization also needed to determine the administrative roles most suitable for carrying out these activities each month, the time needed, and the timing required to pull and distribute the data in a timely manner. As a semi-manual effort that requires technical proficiency of many systems, a thorough SOPs and recording of the process would be an output of the project so that the process is repeatable by any technical admin role.

Impact:

The new value nurture emails were immediately recognized by clients with positive feedback delivered regularly. The production of the reports was systematized and produced regularly, and on schedule. Open rates (and click-through rates) of emails steadily increased over time as renewed interest and anticipation of reports improved.

Web Hosting Service

2019

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to develop a web hosting service with best-in-class delivery, reliability, and security and introduce it into the market as an IaaS solution with added value from in-house developed backup redundancy and recovery protocols. The effort required the organization to identify and procure the appropriate infrastructure through qualified partners and engineer a solution that would meet the project's objective. Another key objective of the project was to update backup protocols to standardize and automate on-server backups, off-server backups, and off-site backups that are pushed outside of the data center to a remote repository. Depending on the recovery needs of any given asset or account on the server, this allows the organization to quickly respond with the correct protocol to resolve almost any restore issue with confidence.

Impact:

The hosting product is best-in-class and conforms to industry standards for uptime and reliability. The service accounts for a significant portion of the organization's recurring revenue with little to no churn, and minimal ongoing operations expense or resource demands, making it amongst the organization's most profitable and reliable revenue categories to-date. Server Engineers architected two parent servers that would mirror a single server instance, allowing for a HA (Highly Available) server setup. The key benefit of the HA setup is that it provides significant uptime reliability and stability by configuring two parent servers that sync data. A result in hardware or network unavailability would force parent server A to failover to parent server B (for instance) or vice versa, ultimately eliminating service interruptions due to a single point of hardware failure.

Review Management System

2018

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to create a review management product for the organization’s target industry. Market research to understand the demand and viability would be necessary, however, the crucial deliverable for the project was to understand the technical feasibility of the product and determine the approach for development. The project focused on industry education around similar products in this category to understand what features were common (and thus expected) and where the organization might introduce additional value to the market. The end goal would be to have a product that would allow the organization’s clients to easily collect reviews by sending invites from their mobile phone or back-office kiosk/desktop and streamline the review submission process that would ultimately publish customer reviews to online sites like Google, BBB, etc...

Interactive Web Floor-plan Renders

2017

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to create interactive and dynamic multi-dimensional floor plans and models of residential and commercial facilities that render environments with the integrated technology commonly used in the organization’s industry. These layouts would live on their clients' websites, though coded and served from source containers within a hosted application - allowing the organization to maintain publishing management of content consistent with the client’s subscription status. Each layout would be carefully chosen based on the market's most common integration deployments (high-end estates, hotels, restaurants, MDUs, boardrooms, etc...). Each space requires meticulous renders of the environment and specific representation of technology (cameras, light switches, audio-video equipment, racks, lights, projectors, touch panels, etc.). A critical pillar of the project is to partner with a CAD/3D studio capable of producing very customized high-quality renders that would allow the organization to select materials, finishes, etc., and submit CADs of manufacturer devices to bring to life within the rendered spaces. Additionally, all technology integrations required full high-quality images along with carefully crafted descriptions (drafted by the organization’s technical Writers) of that technology's application in the respective environments. The end result for the visitor on the client's website is a beautiful render of a home, office, restaurant, etc. that allows them to hover over any space where technology is represented in the layout and click on it to learn more about the benefits of that technology in the space.

Impact:

The product was met with great reception in the market and found its way into the majority of customer’s website orders as an add-on, increasing the value of website sales while improving the client’s credibility, authority, and user experience. Service and deployment remains efficient and scalable and further iterations of the product have been conceived and developed.

Video Content Streaming Platform

2016

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to create a video streaming service for the organization's technical training videos for the industry. The project would need to architect the systems required to perform the batch processing so that orders could be scaled optimally with minimal additional infrastructure. Partnering with a streaming service provider that would allow the organization to control access to videos based on the clients' subscription status is essential to maintain licensing of the product, allowing for unpublishing, or publishing videos based on clients' subscription status. Finally, a web gallery of the videos would need to be coded and added to the clients' websites to serve the video content.

Impact:

The product has been widely heralded as a best-in-class product uniquely suited to help both manufactures and systems integrators communicate the benefits of major control systems. The quality of the product has led to key manufacturer relationships and programs created. As a licensed product with minimal recurring cost to clients, the organization has nonetheless attracted significant interest that has become a significant recurring revenue source for the business, benefiting all stakeholders.

Content Marketing Services

2015

Project Summary:

The main objective of the project was to update the organization’s existing content marketing services to be more relevant to the (then) current industry. The service had not been updated in years and was out of conformance with many advancements, policy changes, marketing trends, and strategies. The major goals of the project were to determine the appropriate mix of services (Blogs, Social, SEO, Newsletters, etc.) that would be most impactful for the organization’s client's online presence. Each service would then need to be reimagined from the ground up to better understand how to best leverage those services in an integrated marketing campaign effort. The project should create and package a suite of digital marketing products into a holistic integrated marketing system that allows for seamless and synergistic delivery to the client with high coordination between the organization's teams of marketers, writers, web designers, admin, project/traffic managers, etc.
